I started the day by taking full advantage of the free breakfast in the hostel, they really didn't see me coming. I also signed up for the free pasta dinner at 7pm. I then took a flying visit to the local supermarket which is nice and cheap. Funds are getting a bit tight and I'm saving where possible. I've only spent €4.30 today and €2 of that was on an icecream.
I met the girls and we did most of the sites (we are saving the coliseum for tomorrow and the vatican for Wednesday).

The Pantheon is brilliant and was exactly the sort of building I was expecting to see when coming to Rome. What I wasn't expecting though was the scale of some of these buildings, statues and monuments. They are huge. It's like being in Gulivers Travels. They really do show off architectural ability and flair - especially in the Pantheon that's over 2000 years old and couldn't even be recreated today in the same materials. With some of the statues though, I think they're just boasting.

We split up at about 6pm so they could go get ready and I could go have my pasta while they were having a meal. We met up after for the Italy match. It's fair to say that the Italians were not happy with the results, but it was quite cool to see their reaction when they scored. It was even better to some of the Americans reactions to the Italians as I don't think they though people could get that excited about football, sorry, "soccer". A couple of them actually left. I think they they feared for their own safety.
We left the pub about 11, but not before having a "debate" about whether or not Louise invented the word "flange". I walked the girls back to their hotel and then when back to my hostel.
A group of 5 people from Hong Kong had moved into my room earlier and once again had very strange names, like Colin and Ken. They are all very polite and nice people, but within the 3 hours of being out, they seem to have turned our digs into a server room. There are wires and laptops everywhere.

I've been writing this blog for about 30 minutes now and they still haven't looked up form their laptops once. I'm sure they're all just on msn to each other. I also have counted 7 laptops and there are only 5 of them. I think they're government agents collecting information.......... and obviously ninjas.
Right, that's me done for today. I'm very much looking forward to the coliseum tomorrow.
Toodles
Ps - I have to tell you about these Nutella chock dips I have found. They are similar to the one we have at home, but (A) they are proper Nutella (B) they are bigger and (3) they are split into 3 sections. Are you ready for this? one quarter is where the nutella is, the second quarter is for the bread stick thingies and the other half...... Is ice tea......AWESOME!! I'll get a pic tomorrow if I remember ;)
I'm pretty sure flange is an Adam original.
ReplyDeleteAh now, you must have known I'd come in on this one ... Flange is a real word! It means a projecting rim or collar. Well done Louise.
