I'M IN CANNES!!!

(19-06-10)

Ahhhhhh. If I don't remember to wear my ear-plugs one more time, I'm going to superglue the things in. I got about 3 hours sleep last night. Mainly due to my burnt knee, but also because Sammy was snoring really loud.

We had to move to another room again this morning (that's our 3rd, but last now) so we packed all our stuff up and dumped them in the new room. Which thankfully is bigger and we all get a bed in here. We then set off to the station to go to Cannes.

It was about 45mins on the train and our plan was to go to Cannes for a few hours, then go back, get changed and go to Monaco for the evening.

It was really nice in Cannes and the first car I saw on the main road was a Bugatti Veyron and then there were hundreds of yachts dotted about and in the harbour so you can tell what type of place it is. Expensive.

We then had a walk around and went past where they hold the film festival. We also took a little walk into the old part of Cannes which is very French, with little winding streets and little houses.

I noticed a cool little cat sprawled out on a wall, so I went over to give it a stroke. It was very cute and even when I stroked it, it didn't move. Not even a flinch when I touched it's head. It was fast asleep. I then panicked and thought I'd been stroking a dead cat and for a while and that's probably why the locals had been looking at me a bit strangly. I gave it a prod. Nothing. I looked for breathing or any sort of movement. Nothing. Eeewwwwww. A dead cat.

I walked away and sat on a bench as if i hadn't noticed it. A dog aproached the cat from behind and it was off. I'd never seen anything move as fast. Especially something that I thought was dead. It was obviously just classicly French and really lazy. At least I hadn't been randomly proding a dead cat though.

We got the train back to Nice, but it had been delayed by 40 minutes. We had also checked the forecast and it said it was going to be bad weather tomorrow so decided to leave Monaco untill then and use the rest of the sun today to go to the beach. Although I decided along with Ludvig (yes that his real name) to give the beach a miss because we both got a bit burnt yesterday.

Instead I went to get the last of my Travelers Cheques cashed and get my train ticket for Barcelona.

I'm down to my las €150 now so I'm definatily going to have to draw some more money out at some stage which is a bit annoying, but not unexpected. I'm also starting to miss home a bit now. Not because I'm bored or not having fun, but with traveling so many places it seems like I've been traveling for months and I haven't even been out of the UK of 2 weeks yet. It's very strange. I have talked to other people traveling and they have all said that they hit a point like this. So it seams to be normal. It must be the "wall" of traveling.

It may be because I'm tired again though. I may feel a bit different in the morning.

I'm currently sat in macdonalds and it's about 9:30. It's the only place that has free wifi. This is the view.

I'd just like to point out that to save battery I have my phone one the lowest possible brightness. This means I can't really see the pics I take because it's so dark. If they are a bit crap, that's why.

I also might aswell use this time to say thanks to everyone who is reading the blog and sending me messages. They are greatly appreciated. I'm quite shocked at the amount of people. So thanks.

Right. I'm going to have a bit of a walk round now and then back to the room for a nice long shower and a bit of tv while the Fins are out for a meal. After all, this is the holiday part of my travels.

Night night. Peace and love!!

I'M IN NICE!!!

(18-06-10)

There were a number of trains I had to take from Milan to Nice. I had to take the train from Milan to Ventimiglia (the last station in Italy), then to Monaco and then Nice.

When I got to Ventimiglia I no idea what trains to get or how to get to Nice. I still hadn't got anywhere to sleep. I was sure I'd be sleeping on the beach, if I got there. I got talking to a group of 3 from Finland who were going to Nice and decided to tag along with them and hopefully get in there hostel. When we got to Monaco the trains were a bit messed up so they decided to ring there hostel and say they would be a bit late. They were told their beds had been re-sold. We were all withought a place to stay now. I felt really sorry for them. They took the news well though suprisingly.

We made it to nice at about 11:30pm and walked for over a hour and half checking every hotel and hostel we came across on the way. Every place was the same story, "sorry we're full". Apparently there was a convention on so everywhere was booked up. It was getting really late and we were all tired so split into two groups for a final push before heading back up towards the train station. Sammy (one of the Fins who looks a bit like a shorter chunkier version of Fredy Flintoff) spotted a hotel behind a little park. We rang the bell a couple of times but no answer. Luckely though, when we started to walk off someone answered the door and even more fortunate they had one room left. It was possabily the last room in Nice, or at least that's how it felt. It was a double but we all decided to take it and sqeeze in. It worked out cheeper than a hostel and was a lot nicer. Below is the View from our room.

I slept well and was ready for an easy, relaxed day on the beach.

When on the train from Amsterdam, I was given a blanket to use as it could get a bit chilly. It was straight in my bag for a beach towel when getting to Nice. How's about that for forward thinking?

We got to the beach about 12:30pm and left about 4:30pm. It is the longest I have ever willingly stayed on a beach in the sun. It was pebbled and had beautiful blue/green sea that was not cold at all to get in. I wanted to go to the beach to try and get a bit of a tan and actually look like I'd been abroad. With just going around cities I have been in the shade of builings a lot and obvioulsy in t-shirts and long shorts so not getting much sun.

It's safe to say, I got a tan. I did my classic of going for a swim and when getting out, falling asleep before re-applying my sun tan lotion. It's fair to say, I'll either go brown or all my skin will fall off.

I had fun at the beach, especially writing things on the pebbles for people to find later. I also wrote some things for some girls close by. Things like "you smell" and then running over and pulling their hair. My usual pulling rituals. For some reason it failed. Time for Plan B. I was going to try take inspiration from the pigeons in Rome who were puffing out their cheasts and faning out their tails and dragging them on the floor, but to be honest there were too many people there and some of the pebbles were sharp. So I went home.

We went back to the room where my skin processed to a magenta colour, then it was off to watch the football (if you can call it that).

We had a couple of drinks after and Then back to the room to watch Family Guy in German and then Scrubs in French

Night

Ps sorry it was a bit long today.
