I'M IN MONTE CARLO!!!

(20/06/10)

I got up about 11am this morning and was out of the room for about 12pm. I was off on my own today as it was the last full one and I hasn't really seen anything of Nice. It was wet out and raining a bit. Apparently there was a thunder storm, but because I remembered my earplugs this time, I didn't notice.

I picked up a few things from the supermarket on the way and then walked into the centre. I notice a Barclays bank so went to check the funds.

Obviously it was closed because it's Sunday. I am totally lost on days and dates, but I've just notices at the top that that I've put 20/06/10 which means it's fathers day. So happy farthers day dad.

I walked through the centre and there was a really nice fruit and veg Market on. It was all people selling their own produce which is nice to see. I felt like Jamie Oliver. Not over-weight and thick tongued, but enjoying looking at the veg.

I took a right out of the Market and was straight on the beach. It was quite cold but there was one plucky Brit swimming in the sea. I left the swimming to them and just had a sit down and skimmed some stones.

Just behind me I notices some stairs going up the cliff so decided to go for an explore. There were some amazing views when I got to the top. It just a shame it wasn't better weather.

It probably took me about 45 minutes to saunter to the top, but about 3 minutes to run to the bottom screaming like a girl because there was a giant rat following me down the steps. I'm not great at scale, but I recon it was about 18 foot tall. I had to quickly look my usual manly self at the bottom though because randomly I bumped into Ludvik and Helena.

I pointed them in the direction of the Market and then I walked along the beach again and back to the hotel to get ready for Monte Carlo, but not before popping into McDonald on the way to steal there wifi and check my emails. I don't buy anything. I just sit at a table where someone has left their tray and rubbish and it looks like mine. You can have that tip for free. The staff were wearing tshirts that said "my boss is a clown" which made me smile a bit. Just a bit though.

We missed the first train because Sammy was missing. When he turned up, he had a massive kabab and a can of beer with him. As soon as Ludvik saw this he was hungry so we left so he could get one and we would meet sammy at the station. Ludvik is about 6foot and skinnyer than me. It's amazing how much he can eat. We got about 2 mins away from the station and I realised I had forgotten my pass. So I had to run all the way back and then walked to the station with sammy.

We got to Monte Carlo in about 20mins on the train. I was mainly going because I wanted to go to the casino, but was scared a bit because I was told there was a dress code. The smartest thing I had with me was my jeans, a bight pink Fred Perry top an the choice of either my walking trainers or flip flops. I chose the trainers. I looked like a football huligan in sensible footwear.

Before going to the casino we had a walk upto the palace. The view was a corcker. You can tell how much money is here with the size an amount of the yachts.

And also the type of cars. People here have mega money.

Only me and sammy went in the casino. It was the most incredable place I've ever been in in my life.

It was a million worlds apart from gala casino. It really was like being in a James Bond film. Some of the tables had a minimum bet of €125 and that wasn't even in the private rooms. I could talk about that place all night, but you have to see it to believe it.

I shouldn't but I couldn't resist the roulette tables. I was a small fish compared to some of the bets that were going down, but I held my own and try to look confident. There were 3 men in tuxedos who ran the table and then a banker. They were all speaking French and it was all very complex. You didn't even have you own coloured chips. The chips where all different amounts and you had to keep track of where you placed your bets. As I said, I held my own and I did ok. I even tipped the men in tuxedos (that seemed to be table etiquette when you had a good streak) I came out up

I gripped that money tightly all the way back like a school boy given money for sweets. I bought myself a Kabab and a can of coke when I got back to Nice. I felt I could treat myself now I could afford to eat. The kabab was good and was real meat unlike the ones you get at home.

Right. I'm gunna go to bed now as I have a full day of travel to Barcelona tomorrow.

Night.

Ps - I will be arranging a trip to Monte Carlo at some point to go back to the casino if anyone is up for it.
